Xara Xtreme for Linux is a powerful, general purpose graphics program for Unix platforms including Linux, FreeBSD and (in development) OS-X. Formely known as Xara LX, it is based on Xara Xtreme for Windows, which is the fastest graphics program available, period. The Xara Xtreme source code was made available open-source in early 2006, and is being ported to Linux. This process is almost complete and Xara Xtreme for Linux is available for download now.

Xara Xtreme recommended download now updated to 0.7. Includes import/export support for more bitmap formats, initial SVG import, bitmap export image preview, text tool tab and ruler support, file drag and drop, much faster install and other improvements. 14 July 2006
Xara LX recommended download now updated to 0.6. Improvements since 0.5 include rulers, printing support, advanced color editor and line gallery.

The annual UKUUG Linux Technical Conference is happening this week at the University of Sussex in Brighton. It's a low-cost event for anyone with a serious interest in Linux, and top project contributor Alex Bligh will be giving a talk about Xara LX - the Xara Xtreme open source project - on Friday afternoon.

Xara LX recommended download updated to 0.1d. Now supports rendering of feathered shapes, scrolling and redrawing is more reliable than before and the select tool is starting to work on some object types.
